(San Dimas)-San Dimas racked up seven touchdowns on the ground as the Saints routed Montclair 48-8 Friday night at San Dimas High.
Senior running back Nico Barbone finished with 88-yards; two touchdowns and junior Ryan Kohler added to the onslaught with four touchdowns; scoring on runs of 50, 18, 10 and one-yard. Quarterback Mick Kalmar ran in the other score, a 20-yard scramble and stiff-arm to get into the end zone.
The Cavaliers kept the game close early, trailing only 14-0 at halftime, but the Saints put them away in the second half.
“I’m really proud of our kids and how the seniors took control,” said San Dimas Coach, Bill Zernickow. “I did not tell them anything at halftime, they just came out and finished”
Defensively the Cavaliers could not match up to the athleticism and team speed of the Saints who dominated in the trenches and all over the field.
Cavalier running backs Doug Hawkins and Alex Sequoia ran hard, but even in the absence of their outstanding line backer, Kyle Whithem, the Saints allowed only eight points on the board.
Shawn Abbot scored the lone touchdown on a bubble screen and quarterback Brian Chang ran in the two-point conversion with 0:54 seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter.
San Dimas is now 3-0, Montclair 1-1
